Meeting content:
JSPE explained the outline of activities in 2018.We exchanged opinions on efforts to increase the number of members.
According to President Aitken, NSPE has about 2000 student members and is also active in student subcommittees. The university also holds briefing sessions on PE licenses. This is a necessary activity for increasing the number of members in the future.
We also discussed the mutual certification of JSPE and NSPE members, and the possibilities and challenges of mutual certification between US PE holders and Japanese engineer qualification holders for the future.
He also said that for those who are currently JSPE members and also NSPE members, raising the membership fee from last year (generally $ 150 → $ 300) is an issue, and it may not be possible to continue as an NSPE member.
President Aitken promised to discuss membership fees for overseas members at the NSPE General Assembly in July.
In addition, with the aim of future development of NSPE and JSPE, it was proposed and considered to conclude a new agreement based on NSPE Bylaw.
We were introduced to NSPE's webinar system and exchanged information on the elements required for webinar support at the JSPE seminar. The point is to properly use the live broadcasting method and the recording method. In the live broadcasting, it is important to take up the questions from the students well, and in the recording method, it is important to answer the Q & A response within 24 hours.
Introduced the JSPE website, reported on events held to make it easier for members to access the information they need, and explained how to organize PE / FE exams and registration experiences by state and field. ..Chairman Aitken pointed out that it is important to support websites other than Japanese such as English and Spanish. In fact, the NSPE homepage uses Google transfer to translate between English and Spanish, so I received advice on future website management.
NSPE also attaches great importance to the opinions of its members, and it is said that there are three main patterns of collection: questionnaires, face-to-face discussions with members, and visits to the state to solicit opinions. JSPE also conducted a questionnaire last year, and I would like to consider ways to meet with members and collect opinions from local members.
It was introduced that NSPE's Ethic Case review activity (BER) will celebrate its 60th anniversary this year and will be a good educational material for Japanese engineers (there is also an article in the May / June issue of PE magazine: Kawamura).
President Aitken will return to the United States after attending a JSPE event this weekend and attending a meeting of the Guam PE Association on Tuesday. It seems that the Guam meeting is also set up at the JSPE general meeting according to the date, and this is becoming a practice since President Bear Helen did so two years ago.
