Title: Common guidelines for global engineering ethics that take into account cultural differences
Lecturer: Mr. Kenichi Natsume, Professor, Basic Education Course, Department of Basic Education, Kanazawa Institute of Technology
Abstract: Obtaining a PE qualification in Japan should be expected to lead to global business expansion. Such global work requires addressing ethical issues arising from cultural differences, both as a practical matter and, of course, as a requirement for PE. In such cases, it is important to respond flexibly to the situation, but an understanding of general guidelines is also required. In this lecture, mainly based on Engineering Ethics: Concepts and Cases 6th edition (2018) by Charles E. Harris, Jr. et al., we will discuss basic ideas for thinking about global issues in engineering ethics, especially Explain common guidelines for ethical issues arising from cultural differences. Furthermore, I would like to refer to the results of a global value survey conducted by Geert Hofstede and others to deepen my understanding of global engineering ethics that takes into account cultural differences.
