In October 1994, the FE exam was launched in Tokyo, as the first outside USA exam provided mainly for Korean, by the Oregon PE board (Osbeels), with the help of the Japan Technology Transfer Association (JTTAS).
In 1996, the PE exam was open to Korean FEs in Yokosuka, and toward 2000, the number of Korean engineers who had gotten PE license had accumulated to some hundreds.

In August 2001, the affiliation agreement with the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) made effective. JSPE has been an affiliate group of NSPE since then.
