This time, Mr. Yamauchi, a former president of Mitsubishi Nuclear Energy Systems, Ltd. in the United States and a visiting professor at Tokyo City University, said, "The actual situation of the US nuclear industry and the situation of government support-a perspective from business experience in the United States- The topic was provided and everyone discussed it.
Mr. Yamauchi talks about his experience in licensing new nuclear power plants in the United States, his abundant business experience in the United States such as litigation issues for steam generator malfunctions, and future trends in nuclear power in the United States, based on a 50-page slide. He summarized and explained in one hour.
After providing the topic, we had a deeper discussion with beer and wine in one hand, taking into account the participants' work experience in Japan and overseas. In the discussion, nuclear licensing in the United States is not about the conflict between regulators and operators / manufacturers, but about how to work together to explain and gain understanding from the public. In the United States, each institution freely made recommendations on future energy policies, and for example, at nuclear power plants, discussions were held on the premise of extending the lifespan of 60 years to 80 years.
As an engineer's salon, there are many applicants for participation, and for the first time, we rented an external conference room from the JSPE office.Since the content is abundant, we are considering taking it up as a long-time CPD seminar in the future.
The JSPE Education Subcommittee is looking for management support members to continue the Engineers Salon, so we ask for your cooperation.
